HELP & ADVICE

Frequently asked questions.

Clear answers about appointments, repairs, parts, your device and what to expect from DSR.

Booking & visiting

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. Repairs are arranged by appointment so the device, parts and timing can be confirmed before you travel. Please contact DSR before visiting — there is no online booking system.

Can I wait while my device is repaired?

There isn’t an indoor waiting area while repairs are being carried out. Depending on the repair, you can leave the device and return later, wait in your vehicle or wait elsewhere locally.

What are your opening hours?

DSR is open Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00, by appointment. The workshop is closed at weekends and on bank holidays.

Do you offer collection and return?

Local collection and return can sometimes be arranged in North Dorset for customers who cannot easily travel. Ask when enquiring and we can confirm availability and any applicable charge.

How do I get a quote?

Send the device make and exact model, a description of the fault or damage, and photographs where useful. Pricing depends on the model, the repair and the suitable part options, so DSR does not publish a generic fixed price list.

Once you have a quote, you can decide whether to proceed. Any required parts payment is then taken before the part is ordered and an appointment is arranged.

Repairs & turnaround

How long will my repair take?

Many straightforward smartphone repairs take approximately 30–60 minutes once the correct parts are available. Some take longer because of the device, fault, adhesive curing or resealing, diagnostics, calibration or the complexity of the work.

Can you repair my device the same day?

Repair appointments are arranged after the required part has arrived. Where supplier stock and delivery allow, parts can often arrive the next working day, but delivery and repair dates cannot be guaranteed until the part is available.

What if the fault is different from what we expected?

A quote based on your description reflects the most likely fault. Some problems can only be confirmed after the device is inspected. If the diagnosis or required work changes, DSR will explain why and get your approval before carrying out anything beyond what was agreed.

Do you repair tablets as well as phones?

Yes. DSR repairs supported smartphones, tablets and iPads. Use the repair finder to choose your device and see the repair options currently available.

Do you repair consoles?

Console repairs are coming soon and aren’t currently available to book.

Parts & pricing

Do you keep repair parts in stock?

Parts are generally ordered specifically for each repair rather than held in stock. This helps make sure the right part and appropriate quality option are ordered for the exact device.

Why do I pay for parts before the repair?

The cost of the required part is normally paid when you accept the quote so it can be ordered for your repair. The remaining labour or fitting charge is normally paid when the completed device is collected.

What quality replacement parts do you use?

DSR uses appropriate quality parts and explains the options where more than one sensible choice exists. Availability varies by device and repair, so not every part type is offered for every job.

Do you use genuine Apple parts?

Where available for the repair, options may include genuine Apple parts, genuine original or pulled Grade A parts, and suitable premium aftermarket parts. Pulled Grade A means an original manufacturer component removed from another device and graded for its condition.

Should I choose genuine or aftermarket?

It depends on the device, repair and what matters most to you. DSR may recommend a genuine part where quality, reliability, calibration, display performance or resale value makes it the better option.

Aftermarket quality varies, and some displays can differ in brightness, colour accuracy, touch response, power consumption and long-term reliability. DSR will explain the meaningful differences before you decide.

Your device & data

Will you need my passcode?

Some diagnostics, testing or manufacturer calibration may need temporary device access. Where the device supports it, Repair or Maintenance Mode is preferred. Passcodes are not retained as part of the permanent repair record.

Will you access my photos or personal files?

Repairing a device does not normally require access to your personal files. Any temporary access requested is for the checks needed to diagnose, test, calibrate or confirm the repair.

Should I back up my device first?

Yes, wherever practical. Back up important photos, files and other data before repair. Most hardware repairs do not deliberately remove data, but no repair can guarantee against every possible data-loss risk.

What if I prefer not to provide device access?

Many repairs can still go ahead, but some checks may not be possible. DSR will explain any testing limitation and may ask you to test the relevant functions yourself before leaving with the device.

Warranty & aftercare

Is my repair covered by a warranty?

DSR provides a 90-day warranty beginning on the date the repaired device is returned to you. It applies to the specific repair carried out and the replacement part fitted as part of that repair.

It does not cover unrelated faults, misuse, liquid damage, new accidental or physical damage, or damage caused by later repair attempts or modification. Read the Repair Warranty terms for the full details.

What should I do if my device has liquid damage?

Switch it off where possible, do not charge it and contact DSR for assessment. Do not put the device in rice. Liquid-damaged devices can be inspected, but a successful repair cannot be promised.

What should I do if the battery is swollen or damaged?

If a battery is swollen, physically damaged, unusually hot or producing a strong chemical or sweet smell, stop using and charging the device and contact DSR.

Other questions

Do you repair devices for businesses?

Yes. Business and trade enquiries are welcome for one device or several. See Business Repairs for the information to send and the available contact routes.

Can you repair every device and fault?

Not every device or fault can be accepted. Some faults need specialist board-level equipment or involve devices where the repair risk is too high. Where appropriate, DSR will explain that specialist repair is required.

Can I send my device by post?

Postal repairs can be arranged where appropriate. Contact DSR before sending anything so the repair and practical details can be confirmed first.
