REPAIR TERMS & CONDITIONS

Clear terms for your repair.

These terms explain how repairs are arranged and carried out by Dorset Smartphone Repairs, including parts, payments, testing, warranty and what happens if something changes during a repair.

They apply when you ask DSR to carry out a repair or related service. Some additional legal rights may apply depending on how the repair is arranged and whether you are acting as a consumer or a business.

Nothing in these terms affects any statutory rights you may have.

Effective: 21 September 2026

Clear before the device is accepted.

Who these terms are with

Dorset Smartphone Repairs (DSR) is operated by Steven Lanes, trading as Dorset Smartphone Repairs, as a sole trader in the United Kingdom.

This website provides information and contact routes. It does not itself take bookings, payments or conclude a repair contract.

Enquiries and quotes

Customers may contact DSR by WhatsApp, email, telephone, SMS or other available contact methods to discuss a repair and receive a quote.

A quote is based on the information provided before DSR has inspected the device.

A quote, appointment booking or parts payment does not by itself mean that DSR has accepted the device for repair.

Where a parts payment is requested, it allows DSR to obtain the expected replacement part and reserve the agreed repair appointment.

The repair is accepted when DSR receives the device, has had a reasonable opportunity to check that the device and proposed repair match the quote, and confirms that the work can proceed.

If the device, fault or required repair differs materially from what was originally described, DSR will explain this before carrying out any additional or different chargeable work.

The customer must own the device or have authority from the owner to authorise the repair.

Replacement parts

Part availability, condition, quality and price vary by device and repair. Where appropriate, DSR may offer or recommend brand-new genuine parts, Pulled Grade A original parts, refurbished original parts or carefully selected aftermarket parts. Not every option is available for every device.

Where more than one suitable option exists, DSR will explain the meaningful differences before ordering. DSR does not automatically use the cheapest available part. The agreed part type forms part of the agreed repair.

More information is available on the Parts Quality page.

Parts payment

DSR does not normally keep repair parts in stock.

Where a part needs to be ordered, the parts cost is normally paid before ordering. This secures the required part and the agreed repair appointment.

The remaining fitting or repair balance is normally due when the completed device is returned or collected.

A parts payment does not by itself constitute acceptance of the device for repair.

If you change your mind

If you decide not to proceed before the repair begins, DSR will normally refund the parts payment where the part is unused, remains returnable and the supplier accepts the return.

Pulled Grade A original parts are normally supplied to DSR on a non-returnable basis, so a change-of-mind refund will not normally be available once one of these parts has been ordered.

This does not affect any statutory rights relating to faulty goods, cancellation rights or other rights provided by law.

Distance and off-premises contracts

DSR normally accepts a repair when the device is received, checked and confirmed as suitable for the quoted work.

Where a contract is exceptionally concluded entirely at a distance or otherwise falls within statutory distance or off-premises contracting rules, any applicable legal information and cancellation rights will apply.

Reserved for your repair.

Repair appointments

DSR operates from a home-based workshop by appointment only. Customers should not travel to the workshop until an appointment has been agreed. There is no indoor customer waiting area.

The appointment reserves time for the expected repair. The device is accepted for repair only after DSR receives it, checks that it matches the quote and confirms that work can proceed.

If a customer cannot attend, they should tell DSR as soon as reasonably possible. DSR does not currently charge a standard missed-appointment fee, although repeated missed appointments may result in DSR declining to arrange another appointment.

Checks that support the repair.

Device condition and testing

Where possible, DSR may inspect, test and photograph the device or repair area before work. This can record physical condition, relevant functions, diagnosis, repair progress or warranty evidence. Repair photographs are handled under DSR's Privacy Policy and are not automatically used for marketing.

If a device does not power on, has no usable display, cannot be unlocked, has severe damage or has an intermittent fault, DSR may not be able to establish the condition of every function before repair. A pre-existing or unrelated fault does not become DSR's responsibility simply because it becomes apparent after the agreed repair.

Device access and testing

DSR normally needs temporary access to a device before and after repair so relevant functions can be tested, calibrated or confirmed.

This does not mean DSR needs access to the customer's personal information.

Passcodes are not stored as part of the repair record.

Where supported, repair or maintenance mode may be used.

Customers may decline to provide access, but some checks may then be unavailable and the customer may need to test the relevant functions when the device is returned.

Back up important data

Customers should make an appropriate backup before repair wherever reasonably possible. Electronic devices can fail for reasons unrelated to a repair, and existing faults can sometimes worsen.

DSR is not responsible for data loss caused solely by a pre-existing fault, unrelated component failure, or corruption already present, unless DSR caused or materially contributed to the loss through its own repair work.

Do not send passwords, account credentials or unnecessary confidential information through the website or enquiry channels.

What may already be inside the device.

Previous repairs and fragile devices

A device that has been opened, repaired, modified, bent, cracked, corroded or otherwise damaged may contain hidden defects, missing or incorrect components, damaged cables, connectors or housings, non-original parts or previous repair damage.

Opening or working on an already compromised device can reveal or worsen an existing defect even when reasonable care is used. Where a material additional risk is reasonably identifiable, DSR will explain it before proceeding.

Liquid exposure and water resistance

Current or previous liquid exposure can cause corrosion, intermittent faults, short circuits and deterioration that may appear later. If significant liquid damage is found, DSR will explain the findings and available next step. DSR does not currently advertise full liquid-damage remediation as a standard service.

Opening a device can disturb factory seals. Where appropriate, DSR will fit a suitable replacement adhesive or seal, but cannot guarantee that a repaired device will retain or regain its original manufacturer water- or dust-resistance rating. A repaired device should not be treated as guaranteed waterproof.

Customer-supplied parts

DSR normally recommends parts sourced through its own suppliers so that source, compatibility and quality can be checked.

DSR may agree to fit a customer-supplied part at its discretion.

DSR does not provide a warranty on the supplied part itself and is not responsible for faults, incompatibility or damage caused by a defective or unsuitable customer-supplied part.

DSR remains responsible for carrying out the fitting work with reasonable care and skill.

Agreed work, realistic timings.

If the repair needs to change

If the repair needs to go beyond what was originally agreed, DSR will explain what has been found, what needs to change, any additional cost and any significant effect on timing. No additional or different chargeable work will be carried out without customer approval.

Specialist work

Some faults may require equipment or expertise that is not available within the DSR workshop. Where specialist or third-party work may be appropriate, DSR will obtain the specialist cost where reasonably possible and explain the proposed work and customer price before seeking approval.

Approval of the original repair does not authorise specialist work. Specialist work is not guaranteed to be available.

Repair times

Repair and parts-arrival times are estimates unless explicitly agreed otherwise. Timing can be affected by parts or supplier delays, faulty replacement parts, additional faults, testing or calibration, device condition and circumstances outside DSR's reasonable control.

DSR will provide updated information when it becomes aware of a significant delay.

Getting the device to and from DSR.

Collection and return

Local collection and return may be available by arrangement. Any collection or drop-off fee will be disclosed and agreed before the service is arranged.

The fee covers transport separately from the repair and may remain payable where agreed in advance even if the device ultimately cannot be repaired.

Postal repairs

Customers must contact DSR before sending a device.

Customers arranging inbound postage are responsible for suitable packaging and for choosing an appropriate tracked and insured service for the value of the device.

DSR commonly recommends Royal Mail Special Delivery or an equivalent tracked and insured service.

Customers should check the carrier's current cover, exclusions and packaging requirements before sending. Return arrangements will be agreed with the customer.

When the repair is ready.

Completion, payment and customer checks

DSR will tell the customer when collection or return arrangements need to be made. The remaining agreed repair or fitting balance is normally due when the completed device is returned or collected.

DSR may retain the device while agreed repair amounts remain unpaid, to the extent permitted by law. No unapproved additional work will appear on the final bill.

Where practical, customers are encouraged to check the repaired functions when the device is returned. Testing at collection does not remove the 90-day DSR repair warranty or statutory consumer rights.

Uncollected devices

DSR will make reasonable attempts to contact a customer when a device is ready.

If a device remains uncollected for more than 60 days, DSR may begin the formal legal process for dealing with uncollected goods, including written notice and, where legally permitted, sale or other lawful disposal.

A device does not automatically become DSR property after 60 days.

Any outstanding repair charges remain payable.

90-day repair warranty

Warranty period and scope

The 90-day warranty begins when the repaired device is returned to the customer. Returned means handed back to the customer or their authorised representative, delivered through DSR's collection and return service, or recorded as delivered by the agreed return carrier.

It applies only to the specific repair carried out by DSR and the replacement part supplied and fitted by DSR. It does not cover the whole device.

Warranty exclusions

The DSR commercial repair warranty does not cover:

  • new physical or accidental damage
  • subsequent liquid damage or misuse
  • software issues unrelated to the repair
  • faults unrelated to the original repair
  • failure of other components
  • damage or faults caused by later repair attempts or modification
  • subsequent work that damages or interferes with the DSR repair or fitted part
  • defects or failure in customer-supplied parts

If there is a warranty problem

DSR may need to inspect and test the device first. If the issue is covered, DSR will put the covered repair right without an additional repair charge. This may involve adjustment, re-performing the repair, replacing the covered part or another appropriate remedy.

If the issue is not covered, DSR will explain the findings before any chargeable work proceeds.

The DSR warranty is an additional commercial warranty and does not replace or reduce the customer's statutory rights. No artificial reporting deadline applies within the 90-day warranty period.

A clear and fair balance.

If DSR causes damage

DSR is responsible for carrying out repair work with reasonable care and skill. If DSR causes separate damage through its repair work, DSR will take responsibility for putting that damage right at its own cost where reasonably possible. Depending on the circumstances, this may mean repairing the damage, replacing the affected component or another appropriate remedy agreed with the customer.

Pre-existing and unrelated problems

DSR is not responsible merely because an unrelated, hidden or pre-existing fault becomes apparent after repair.

DSR is not responsible for pre-existing damage, unrelated component failures, previous repair damage, deterioration caused by pre-existing liquid damage or defects inherent in customer-supplied parts, unless DSR caused or materially contributed to the problem through its own repair work.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

Your statutory rights

Nothing in these terms affects rights the customer has under applicable consumer law. Consumer repair services must be performed with reasonable care and skill, and any additional statutory remedies or cancellation rights continue to apply alongside the DSR commercial warranty.

Who the service is for.

Business repairs

These terms also apply to repairs arranged by businesses and organisations unless a separate written agreement states otherwise. Consumer-specific rights apply only where the customer legally qualifies as a consumer.

Priority repairs, credit accounts, discounts, different warranty terms, faster turnaround, loan devices or special payment terms are not promised unless separately agreed in writing for a specific job.

See the Business Repairs page.

Independent repair service

Dorset Smartphone Repairs is an independent repair business. Unless expressly stated for a particular service, DSR is not the manufacturer or an authorised manufacturer service centre.

A third-party repair or non-manufacturer part may affect a manufacturer's own warranty or support arrangements. Customers concerned about an existing manufacturer warranty should check the manufacturer's terms before proceeding.

Information and contact routes.

Using this website

The website provides information, helps customers identify repair options and provides contact methods.

It does not take online repair bookings, create customer accounts, process repair payments, send enquiry data to a DSR backend or automatically create repair contracts.

Final availability, part choice, price and repair acceptance are confirmed directly with DSR.

Privacy

Personal information used to arrange and manage repairs is handled in accordance with DSR's Privacy Policy.

Questions or problems with a repair

If a customer has a question, complaint or believes there is a problem with a repair, they should contact DSR so the issue can be reviewed.

Other contact information is available on the Contact page.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. This does not remove mandatory consumer protections that may apply to a customer resident elsewhere.
